Russia has opened a new diplomatic front with Israel, following Sergei Lavrov’s statements on Italian television about Adolf Hitler’s “Jewish blood”.
The statements of the Russian Foreign Minister on Italian television provoked a reaction from Israel and in particular from Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, who described his counterpart’s statements as “unforgivable and outrageous”, adding that it was “a terrible and historic mistake.”
“Jews did not commit suicide in the Holocaust. “The lowest level of racism against Jews is to accuse the Jews themselves of anti-Semitism.”said the head of Israeli diplomacy.
Sergei Lavrov spoke on Italian television about Moscow’s decision to invade Ukraine, insisting that the goal was to “de-Nazify” the country.
“Zelensky puts forward an argument: what kind of Nazism can exist in Ukraine when he himself is a Jew. I may be wrong, but Hitler also had Jewish blood. It means absolutely nothing. “The wise Jewish people say that the most ardent anti-Semites are usually Jews.”Lavrov said, provoking the reaction of Israel, while the Russian ambassador was also called to protest.
