A young man from Ohio was sentenced to 60 days in prison by a federal court, who was tied with adhesive tape to his seat because stalked and attacked the flight attendants during a flight of Frontier Airlines from Philadelphia to Miami.

THE Maxwell Berry, 23 years old, was also sentenced by Judge Robert Scola Jr. to one year in custody, according to court documents in Miami federal court. He will have to appear in jail to serve his sentence on August 1, exactly one year after his arrest at Miami International Airport.

Berry, originally from Norwalk, Ohio, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault and risked up to 18 months in prison. His fellow passengers videotaped the incident with their mobile phones and the footage was posted on the internet, highlighting the dangers faced by flight attendants due to the large number of “unruly” passengers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Berry drank alcohol and went to the plane’s toilet after pouring a drink on him. He came out of the toilet without a shirt and a flight attendant helped him get a clean one out of his suitcase, according to the police report, quoted by the local TV channel WPLG. After walking for a few minutes in the runway of the plane, the young man stroked the breasts of many female flight attendants and punched a male colleague. The passengers helped the crew to immobilize him and tied him with adhesive tape to his seat for the rest of the flight.

His lawyer, Jason Crazy, said the incident was a “diversion” from his client. “He is a really good boy, from a wonderful family and he was punished for the worst day of his life”said in a statement, noting that “Respects the judgment of the court”.
