Victory Day celebrations on May 9 (Russian National Anniversary against the Nazis) in Mariupol are impossible today, Dmitry Peshkov stressed on Friday. However, such a choice is possible in the future, added the representative of the Russian president.

The Russian official’s statements come at a time when the remaining fighters in the Azovstal steel plant are determined to to fight to the end.

Asked if Russia was sending an official delegation to Mariupol to celebrate Victory Day, Peshkov clarified that knows nothing to send a delegation next Monday 9 May.

“There will certainly be Russians and many others (in Mariupol) on May 9, but I have no information about an official delegation,” Peshkov said.

The presidential spokesman said that the organization of festive events in the city “Is impossible for obvious reasons”. “The time will come and full festive events can be organized there,” the Russian official said.

The president’s spokesman clarified that he had no information on whether the Russian Ministry of Defense was planning to hold a military parade in Mariupol on May 9. “I can not say if there are plans for our army,” he said. However, army spokesman Sergei Kiriyenko said Victory Day parades could not be held in Donetsk and Lugansk this year, “but such a choice was possible in the future.”
