“In March, I agreed with US President Joe Biden to export LNG from the US to Europe. Liquefied natural gas facilities will be set up in Greece, Cyprus and Poland, which will be put into operation soon. “So this infrastructure will be the energy core of Europe,” said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen of Davos.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, von der Leyen stressed the importance of unity with Russia and the war against Ukraine. “The aim is to find solutions together in the challenges we face. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine dates back another century. It is not just a question of Ukraine surviving. It is not just a question of Europe’s security. It disturbs the world order of things. Ukraine must win this war. “We need to have unity for the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
Regarding the economic consequences, he said that Western sanctions are emptying Russia’s coffers. However, the war has shaken the whole world, causing problems in the power chain, which is already in crisis from the pandemic. “We see how Russia is using energy. And this has global implications. It also creates a food crisis by bombing Ukraine’s grain warehouses. “Europe is working hard to supply the grain market.”
He added that Europe must resolve the issue of fuel immediately. “The climate crisis is not waiting. We must turn to green energy. “Europe is coming up with new agreements with reliable energy providers from around the world.”
