One of the promises to combat the risk of water shortages in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, the work to transfer water from the Itapanhaú River to the Alto Tietê system, will have the contract terminated.
Sabesp says that it is negotiating with the Serra do Mar Adductor Consortium for the termination of the contract for the works of the Itapanhaú River interconnection and that a new bidding will be held.
The project was a telenovela with years of delay and an addendum that made it more expensive by R$ 20 million. In September of last year, Sabesp raised the value of the contract to more than R$ 111 million. The deadline, which was 18 months at the time of signing with the consortium formed by the companies Cetenco and OAS Engenharia in January 2018, had been postponed to this year.
At the time when the authorization for the works was signed by former governor Geraldo Alckmin, Sabesp praised the choice of model, saying that it would be similar to the one used to supply New York for over 150 years, taking water from the mountains about 160 kilometers away. of the city.
