Panel SA: National industry will also expand diversity after trans Barbie

by

After Mattel’s trans Barbie, which triggered a request for a public hearing to discuss “psychosocial implications in children”, the national industry must also move towards diversity in toys.

According to Synesio Batista, president of Abrinq, the next annual fair in the sector, in 2023, will certainly have more variety.

“In the toy world, we follow the trend of parents and children. This is growing, and we are following it”, he says.

According to him, a significant part of the sector in Brazil is focused on research for the development of the most diverse products, but he notes that he considered the model adopted by Mattel in the case of Barbie Laverne Cox to be a mess.

The request for the debate on the doll, which was presented by Bolsonarista Otoni de Paula (MDB-RJ) and signed by deputy Pastor Sargento Isidório (Avante-BA), proposes that the president of Mattel in Brazil be invited to the public hearing.
