Petrobras has a record for importing LNG cargoes in 2021 due to thermal demand

by

Petrobras set a record for the transshipment of LNG (liquefied natural gas) cargo this year, with a total of 104 operations until November 4th, amid imports at historic levels to meet the strong demand for thermal power plants in the face of a serious crisis in the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants.

In a statement on Tuesday (23), the company also said it expected to reach a total of 120 LNG cargo transshipments between vessels (STS or Ship-to-Ship) through its regasification terminals by the end of this year .

This year’s mark surpassed the 103 procedures registered in 2014, previously the year of greatest demand. “The record is the result of a set of initiatives adopted by Petrobras to expand the supply of natural gas, ensuring compliance with its commitments in the current scenario of the national water crisis,” said the company. Since 2009, the date of inauguration of the first LNG terminal in Brazil, a total of 716 operations have been carried out, the company added.
