Alckmin is Lula’s ‘Ipiranga post’ in meetings with business people

Former governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) has appeared as a guarantor for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) during the series of dinners with businessmen.

That, according to reports, happened on Tuesday night (28), when Alckmin was responsible for the macroeconomic analysis and the proposals for “reconstruction of the country”.

At the meeting with businessmen, among them Carlos Sanchez (EMS), Candido Pinheiro (Hapvida), João Camargo (Esfera) and Pedro Silveira (ex-XP), Lula recalled Alckmin’s victories in the state of São Paulo and said that one is learning with the other, according to participants.

Also according to those present, Lula promised the sum of their experience for Brazil’s economic recovery.

This Wednesday (29), during an interview with a radio station in Piracicaba, Lula once again emphasized the role of the vice president in an eventual government. He said, for example, that nobody took care of the ethanol issue like the two of them, when he was president and Alckmin, governor.

“What’s the advantage of me and Alckmin? It’s that we already know how to sit in the chair”, he said.

The day before, also at this dinner organized by lawyers Marco Aurélio Carvalho, Pierpaolo Bottini and Sérgio Renault, Lula compared his alliance with the former governor to a couple about to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

Upon taking the floor, Alckmin told the businessmen that Lula has always been a man of dialogue, conciliator and aggregator.

Citing many figures and data, Alckmin presented the social and economic policies of FHC and Lula as a progression, meeting inflation targets, generating a surplus and reducing debt.

The former toucan analyzed this evolution from the FHC government to Lula until reaching the appreciation of the minimum wage in the PT administration.

Sitting in an armchair next to Lula, he even touched the PT’s leg as he spoke, the participants describe.

The former president, on the other hand, told businessmen that they know how the economic policy was implemented in his government. He also ruled out surprises in case of victory in the next elections.

Lula said that he has always left and will leave the doors open to the business community, as well as to the poor. The former president defended the need for a pact against poverty.

Also according to participants, PT told businessmen that he doesn’t want to take anything from anyone, but that Brazil cannot be just for a few. In the conversation circles, Lula spoke of the resumption of credibility to attract foreign investment.

Before, in the speech, he said that President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) seems to be made of plastic for not shedding a tear in front of the victims of Covid and natural disasters.

At the dinner, based on Portuguese cuisine, Lula was accompanied by his wife, Janja, former minister Aloizio Mercadante, state deputy Emidio de Souza and future campaign treasurer, deputy Marcio Macedo (SE).

The economist and adviser to Lula Gabriel Galípolo also participated in the meeting.

One of the organizers of the dinner, Marco Aurélio Carvalho, asked the guests to hand in their cell phones upon arrival. During almost four hours, the devices were kept in bags with the identification of the owner.

According to organizers, the guest list included one of the largest plastic producers in the world, who had to cancel his presence after being diagnosed with Covid.

Lula should speak to Fiesp next week. There are also plans to meet with entrepreneurs in the agribusiness sector in early July.
