Opinion – Vinicius Torres Freire: Lula and Alckmin combine their end-of-year program

by

In another Lula da Silva dinner with the owners of the big money, a businessman said that he asked the former president “with skill” if the program guidelines that the PT launched last week were for real.

Lula neither said yes nor no. She asked if the businessman had heard the speech by Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), her deputy, at the beginning of the meeting. To almost everyone, she said he and Alckmin learned from “years of chair” and government mistakes. The crisis that exploded in 2015 had “many reasons”: low commodity prices and the world economy, as well as “policy errors by our people”.

Alckmin had talked in detail about FHC’s continuity with Lula in terms of social policies and debt and inflation control, etc. He said that “election is comparison” and that the alternative is someone who “broke” with the progress of the toucan-PT years and threatens a greater rupture with democracy.

A few PT members have said similar things about Alckmin’s role, as have people outside the party with whom Lula speaks frequently. More than clearing right-wing environments for Lula and more than a deputy “guarantor”, like businessman José Alencar (1931-2011), he would become a deputy “formulator”, who would be part of the government.

Who knows, but that’s what people in a position to see something beyond the thick fog that covers the project of an eventual Lula 3. Project: specific plans, cadres capable of executing them, political support and social articulation to support it. them.

The impression of people who were at the dinner is that Lula and Alckmin’s rapport and familiarity are great. The convergence would be reinforced by the influence of Fernando Haddad, former mayor of São Paulo and candidate for the São Paulo government, and of Gabriel Chalita, former government secretary of Alckmin.

Haddad doesn’t get into split balls in the PT, says a former PT governor. It circulates among technical and academic staff from the “right to the left”: it is someone who will bring the “air” (sic) to the PT. Alckmin would listen a lot to Chalita, a kind of political-programmatic secretary, says a businessman who speaks well with Greeks and Trojans.

Haddad and Chalita would eat the porridge of the government project right in the middle, avoiding the edges and edges of the internal conflict of Lula’s ticket. The Haddad-Chalita route would be a path through which Lulalckmin’s rapprochement with government officials would pass, especially in the economic area.

To the businessman at the beginning of this text, Lula would have said that the program is never “closed”, that it will be the result of conversations, including those that night. In addition, she would have said something like “you have to have plans, but not everything can be done and everything depends on the situation”, as any entrepreneur should also know for their business.

Lula does not have an economic or campaign team, but program coordinators, says a PT member. Politicians, especially former governors, are vying for the seat of the “politician” Minister of Economy, which would provide shelter for technical staff. Which? Nobody has a clue or idea.

Alckmin doesn’t have a team either. He didn’t take pictures of his PSDB migration or add others, although he does talk to a lot of people to come up with ideas and gather facts, such as the ones he presented at Tuesday’s dinner. Chalita would shape these presentations.

More specifically, Lula would have said little, according to four people who were at the dinner. She said there will be no “scares”. Which is concerned with how to attract foreign and private investment, with partnerships. That the BNDES this time would support small and medium-sized companies, of innovation and “green development”, for which there is no financing at good cost in the market.
