See how each deputy voted for the PEC that boosts social benefits on the eve of the elections

by

Despite having criticized the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) that expands social benefits in an election year, the opposition favorably guided the two main votes of the text.

The PEC establishes a state of emergency that allows President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to boost social benefits a few months before the presidential vote while he remains in second place in the polls. Without the PEC, expanding payments would face impediments provided for in fiscal and electoral legislation.

In the first round, the basic text was approved on Tuesday night (12) by 393 to 14 – at least 308 votes were needed. This Wednesday (13), the deputies rejected, by 361 votes to 142, the highlight to suppress the expression “state of emergency” from the text.

In the second round vote, the basic text was approved by 469 to 17 – it needed, again, at least 308 votes. After the final vote on the highlights this Wednesday, the PEC goes on to be promulgated – which should take place in the coming days.
