Gol suspended a partnership with Editora Abril after Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) complained that the airline was distributing free editions of Veja magazine in its window with a content critical to his father, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) .

On Wednesday morning (13), Flávio shared a video on his social networks recorded by a person at the Gol check-in counter.

In the footage, the man – who does not identify himself – criticizes the presence of copies of the magazine, which has Bolsonaro’s face on its cover with the so-called “Danger in sight”. In the president’s eyes, the image of an electronic ballot box can be seen.

“A pile of magazines here. ‘Danger in sight’, look at the danger, look: Bolsonaro”, comments the man, who says he was at the Gol ticket office at Congonhas airport, in São Paulo, on July 12.

When sharing the video, Flávio said he “deeply regrets” what happened and asked for an official position from the company. “I hope it’s not because of some promise by the ex-con to ‘help’ the airline should the catastrophe happen when his gang returns to power,” he wrote.

Just over nine hours after posting, the senator published a photo with Gol’s response saying that it had suspended the partnership with Editora Abril.

“We deeply regret what happened. Gol’s promotional actions do not have any political bias,” reads the message.

“The magazine distribution partnership with Ed. Abril, now suspended, does not cover editorial or news selection. Gol always continues to work for the development of Brazil”, he adds.

In the publication, Flávio said that he had been contacted by the company, which would have clarified that the “opinion is not that of the airline, but of Abril publishing house”. In the end, the senator congratulated the company for what he considers to be a “respectful and transparent attitude”.

wanted by SheetGol said that it partnered with Editora Abril in May of this year for the free distribution of Veja magazine, for a limited time and on a trial basis.

“The partnership ended this week. At no time did the company participate in the definition of the magazine’s editorial content, as well as in the choice of news”, says the note sent by Gol.

In the end, the company repeated the content of the message sent to Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, saying that there is no political bias related to promotional actions of this type and that it always continues “working for the development of Brazil”.

The report was unable to contact Editora Abril.
