On the eve of the auction for the 7th round of concessions, scheduled for August, Infraero took to Anac a request to expand the capacity of flights in Congonhas, creating a rift in the air sector. Increasing landings and take-offs (called slots) at the airport is a thorny issue because it affects different interests, from the residents of the surroundings affected by noise and traffic to airlines, worried about the increase in competition at the terminal.
Airline executives opposed to the increase in slots in Congonhas say that the expansion could create bottlenecks because the current infrastructure would not support a growth in passenger volume at peak times, which could open loopholes for complaints in the courts, falling into the lap of the concessionaire. come
The dilemma is that, on the other hand, capacity expansion could help to beautify the asset at auction.
Sought by the SA Panel, Anac confirms that the request was made by Infraero to increase the operational capacity of the airport and is being analyzed by the agency. “Anac is still awaiting information that was requested from Infraero about airport infrastructure and operational safety”, it says in a note.
