Panel SA: Solar plants overtake natural gas and become the 3rd largest energy source

by

Solar energy became the third largest source in the national matrix in July, surpassing natural gas and biomass thermoelectric plants, according to data from Absolar (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

Now, the category, which includes large plants and small projects of own generation, is only behind hydroelectric plants and wind farms, according to the entity.

The mapping shows that the country currently has 16.4 gigawatts of installed power in solar energy, a level slightly above the value for natural gas and biomass.
