THE ExxonMobil acquired the majority of hydrocarbon exploration rights in the West and South-West areas of Crete, following the withdrawal of the French TotalEnergies, as announced today by Greek petroleum in the Stock Exchange.
It is recalled that ExxonMobil and TotalEnergies with a percentage of 40% and Hellenic Petroleum with the remaining 20%.
After the withdrawal of the French company and the ExxonMobil – ELPE agreement announced today, the shares are respectively 70% for ExxonMobil, which will also take over the duties of the Trustee held by TotalEnergies and 30% for the ELPEthrough the subsidiaries he has recommended for the investigations in the two areas.
Seismic surveys are pending in the research areas that will provide a first insight into the existence of hydrocarbons. These are areas of 20,058.4 sq.km (West of Crete) and 19,868.37 sq.km (Southwest of Crete). In both areas, a first series of seismic surveys had been carried out in 2012.
