Commodity Shuttle: Brazil fills quota and exports less meat to the US

The quota for exports of fresh meat from Brazil to the United States has been filled and sales to North Americans fall in May.

After reaching the record mark of 46,000 tonnes sold in January, the volume of sales from Brazil to the United States declined and reached 15,000 tonnes in May, according to data from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).

Despite this drop, Brazilians maintained a 20% share in the volume of beef imported by North Americans from January to May. In the same period last year, it was 9%.

In the first five months of this year, the US imported 724,000 tonnes. Of this volume, 151 left Brazil. Americans are expected to import 1.6 million tonnes this year, 9% less than in 2021.
