Petrobras: Dividends Cuts and Gasoline Cut

On the same day that it announced a new cut in gasoline prices, Petrobras decided to distribute BRL 87.8 billion in dividends for the result of the second quarter of 2022. It is the highest value ever announced by the state-owned company.

In numbers: the Union, with 28.67% of the shares, will receive around BRL 25 billion. When adding with the BRL 14 billion to which he was entitled from the profits distributed in the first quarter, will pocket BRL 39 billion.

GDP: the sum of all the riches produced in the country fell 0.9% compared to the same period in 2021. Analysts consulted by Reuters estimated an increase of 0.5%. Compared to the previous quarter, the decline was 0.2%the second retreat in a row.

• The drop was driven by companies’ inventories, still impacted by the effects of the pandemic, which eliminated 2 percentage points from the indicator.

• The unexpected drop fueled expectations of recession and a lower interest rate hike in the country, which took away the strength of the dollar against other currencies.

In companies:

• Apple posted profit and revenue above projections. iPhone sales showed resilience in a downturn scenario and lessened the impacts that the company had with the lockdowns in China. Shares rose 3% in the aftermarket.

• Amazon had better-than-expected revenue despite posting its second straight quarter of loss. The company said it was managing to cut costs, which helped boost shares 13% in the aftermarket.
