Mr. Dendias raised the issue of German reparations to Mrs. Burbock, saying that Greece appreciates the assumption of historical responsibility, but would like the assumption of responsibility to be complete.
We reviewed our bilateral relations, which span time with bright and dark spots, said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in his joint statements with German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock immediately after their one-on-one meeting.
During his statements, Nikos Dendias sent the message that the example of revisionism in Ukraine cannot succeed, as its next victim could be Greece.
Then Mr. Dendias raised the issue of the delivery of German submarines to Turkey, saying that there is a risk of changing the balance of power in favor of a country that has issued a threat of war against Greece, that violates sovereignty and sovereign rights, illegally occupies the territory of a state a member of the EU, a country that pulverizes human rights and freedom of the press.
He added that Greece also has the same submarines, but it does not threaten any of its neighbors and is not a revisionist power.
He also raised with Mrs. Burbock the subject of German reparationssaying that Greece appreciates the assumption of historical responsibility on the part of Germany, however, it would like the assumption of responsibility to be complete: “For the Greek government and Greek society, the issue of German reparations is open. The regulation is an issue for us principle and we believe it will be mutually beneficial.”
Burbock: We didn’t do everything right
For her part, the German Foreign Minister, referring to the German handling during the Greek economic crisis, admitted that “we did not do everything right during the crisis”.
He said: “We thought we knew the answers to your problems better and listened less. We have learned more and intend to heal the wounds.”
