The federal government renewed its contract with Embrapii (Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation) and committed to allocating R$ 2.5 billion to research and development projects articulated by the organization with the private sector by 2030.
Created in 2013, Embrapii is a social organization linked to associations in the industrial sector to foster partnerships between private companies and research institutions with funds transferred by the federal government. The first contract with the government expired last year.
The resources provided for with the renewal of the contract are equivalent to investments of R$ 250 million per year in innovation in the industry. Last year, Embrapii supported 224 projects, totaling R$205 million, of which R$70 million were transferred by the organization.
In the seven years of the first contract, Embrapii received R$ 745 million from the government and supported around 1,400 innovation projects of a thousand companies from different industrial sectors. The new contract was signed with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Economy, Education and Health.
