“From the very beginning, the Greek government has taken the necessary actions to shield our country against the adverse scenario,” said the Minister of Energy.
The new liquefied natural gas tank in Revythoussa is ready to receive the first loads by the end of August. In this way we ensure the sufficiency of natural gas in case we have interruptions in the flows.
This, among others, was stated by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas, who, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Environment, George Amyras, and the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Raw Materials, Alexandra Sdoukou, inspected today the new liquefied natural gas tank in Revythoussa.
The minister’s statement in detail:
“From the very beginning, the Greek government has taken the necessary actions to shield our country against the unfavorable scenario of having natural gas cut off from Russia next winter.
Today we visited the new floating tank here in Revythoussa which enables us to almost double the storage capacity and in this way to improve and make even more use of this Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) re-liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and in this way to ensure the adequacy in natural gas in case we have interruptions in the flows. This was done in record time.
The new tank is ready to receive the first LNG cargoes by the end of August. This will make it possible to ensure our country’s supply of natural gas, where a large percentage of this is of course used for electricity generation, and thus to shield our country energetically in the next period of time.
DESFA has taken all necessary actions. Very quickly, in record time, this new tank was installed, this new ship which makes it possible, as we said, to almost double the storage capacity of the re-Europeanization facility and in this way to be able to cover the needs of our country”.
The new floating unit increases the capacity of the Revythoussa facilities to more than 375,000 cubic meters of LNG (compared to 225,000 m3 which is the capacity of the existing three tanks at Revythoussa).
The addition of the tank increases the capacity as well as the flexibility of the facility in terms of receiving available liquefied natural gas loads.
