The list of confirmed presences at Bolsonaro’s lunch with Febraban this Monday (8) has names such as the president of Bradesco, Luiz Carlos Trabuco, Milton Maluhy (Itaú) and Mario Leão (Santander).
Fausto Ribeiro, president of Banco do Brasil, Daniella Marques (Caixa Econômica Federal), José Berenguer (Banco XP), Daniel Darahem (JP Morgan), Marcelo Marangon (Citibank) are also among the names confirmed by Febraban.
The president’s presence at the event is seen as an occasion for rapprochement with the financial sector after the release of the pro-democracy manifestos, which emerged after Bolsonaro’s repeated attacks on the polls in front of an audience of foreign ambassadors last month.
The documents received signatures from bankers such as Roberto Setubal, Pedro Moreira Salles and Candido Bracher and from Febraban itself, which also includes Caixa and Banco do Brasil. The two public banks took a stand against the sectoral adhesion at the time of the signature.
After the repercussions of the manifestos, Bolsonaro reacted by saying that the banks joined because the government “beat” them with the Pix. The president also said that “these people who sign this manifesto are cock-faced, without character”.
