‘We just have to vote correctly, everything is set’, Guedes tells businessmen

At an Abrasel (bar and restaurant association) event held this Tuesday (9), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, once again stated that Brazil is at the beginning of a “long cycle of growth”, while other countries project slowdown.

“We just have to be sensible, we just have to vote correctly, do the right thing and follow the path of prosperity, everything is in order,” said Guedes, stressing that the country is in contrast to advanced economies, which are already talking about recession. , and with neighboring countries such as Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia, which are “breaking up”.

The minister’s assessment, however, goes against international projections. In reviewing global estimates in its Global Economic Perspective report, the IMF now sees GDP (Brazilian Gross Domestic Product) growth this year at 1.7%, up from the 0.8% rate calculated in April. For 2023, however, the report projects expansion of only 1.1%.

As for the world economy, the institution forecasts a slowdown from 3.2% growth this year to 2.9% next year. In this scenario, Brazil’s performance would be worse than the global one.

The minister also said that the country’s unemployment rate will fall to 8% before the end of the year and that the rise in GDP will exceed analysts’ projections.

In the three months to date, the country’s unemployment rate stood at 9.3%, the lowest level for the period since 2015.

“Before the year ends, we’re going down to 8%… we’re going to end the year with the lowest unemployment rate we’ve seen in the last ten, 15 years,” said Guedes.

Speaking to businessmen, the minister said, without giving details, that the country should advance in the tax transaction program, which granted discounts for companies to settle their debts, ensuring that the event, trade and service sectors have access to the same possibilities that were granted to other sectors.
