Flamengo advances to Libertadores semifinals with new victory over Corinthians

As was the case in the first leg between Flamengo and Corinthians, Uruguayan midfielder De Arrascaeta was once again decisive and the red-black team confirmed its classification in the Libertadores semifinals with another victory over Corinthians, 1-0.

After winning the first leg by 2-0, in Itaquera, where the Uruguayan midfielder opened the scoring with a beautiful goal, the Rio team added 3-0 on aggregate. At Maracanã, the point guard did not hit the net, but it was his assistance for Pedro to set the score, already at seven in the final stage.

Corinthians still ended the match with one player less when Bruno Méndez was sent off, at 24 of the second half, when the referee was called by VAR (video referee) to check a foul that the defender made at the entrance of the area. The referee considered that Méndez prevented a clear scoring chance by deflecting the ball with his arm.

Under the command of the Portuguese Vítor Pereira, the São Paulo team says goodbye to the competition with only two wins, both in the first phase, in addition to five draws and three defeats. The Corinthians scored just five goals in the championship and conceded seven.

In the next phase, Flamengo will face the winner of the Argentine clash between Talleres and Vélez. In the first leg, Vélez won 3-2 at home. The return duel will be this Wednesday (10), at 21:30.

Also this Wednesday, Libertadores will have a new Brazilian clash. At Allianz Parque, Palmeiras face Atlético-MG, at 21:30. In the first leg, there was a tie by 2 to 2, in a confrontation marked by a reaction of the São Paulo team, which was losing by 2 to 0.

In case of a new tie, the decision of the spot in the semifinal will be on penalties.
