SA Panel: Hospitals study dismissal after raising the nursing floor

by

After the entry into force of the law that establishes the national salary floor for nurses, technicians and nursing assistants and midwives, some private hospitals are already considering dismissing employees, according to CNSaúde (National Health Confederation).

Marcos Ottoni, legal director of CNSaúde, says that the change can harm and even make the provision of health services unfeasible. Ottoni says that “the law is a shot in the foot” of nurses.

“They assume that large hospitals have a lot of money and could afford it. But they represent less than 5% of the total in Brazil. We are talking about hospitals in the Northeast, North and Midwest that do not have a tenth of these resources”, it says.

A survey carried out by the entity points out that the average profit margin of hospitals should go from 9.7% to a negative value of 3.4%, which would lead, in the medium term, to the closure of institutions.

“The great base of difference in values that will increase is not in São Paulo, Brasília and Rio, they are in other poles. For example, Paraíba will have an increase of 186% for nursing technicians”, says Ottoni.

According to him, CNSaúde filed a direct action of unconstitutionality against the law that came into force on Friday (5) establishing a minimum remuneration of R$ 4,750 for nursing.
