Petrobras announced this Thursday (11) a new reduction in the price of diesel oil at refineries. The write-off, which takes effect this Friday (12), reduces the average value for distributors by R$ 0.22 – from R$ 5.41 to R$ 5.19.
It is the second consecutive reduction of diesel in August. Last week, the state-owned company had already cut the price of fuel by R$ 0.20 at refineries. In other words, the accumulated low this month reached R$ 0.42.
Last week’s cut was the first in over a year. Until then, the last drop in refineries had occurred in May 2021, according to the state company.
When confirming the two consecutive reductions, Petrobras cited the same arguments. According to the state-owned company, reference prices in the international market have stabilized at a lower level recently, allowing for cuts.
“This reduction [anunciada nesta quinta] follows the evolution of reference prices, which have stabilized at a lower level for diesel, and is consistent with Petrobras’ pricing practice, which seeks to balance its prices with the global market, but without passing it on to the domestic prices of cyclical volatility of international quotations and the exchange rate”, the state-owned company said in a note.
