The unemployment rate fell in 22 units of the federation in the second quarter of 2022, compared to the previous quarter, informed this Friday (12) the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
Pernambuco had the biggest drop: minus 3.5 percentage points. Alagoas, Pará, Piauí and Acre also stood out, with drops of around 3 percentage points in the four states, said the IBGE.
In the large regions, there was a reduction in the rate from the 1st to the 2nd quarter, with the Northeast registering the highest unemployment rate: 12.7%. The region is also home to the three states with the highest unemployment rate: Bahia (15.5%), Pernambuco (13.6%) and Sergipe (12.7%).
The lowest rates were in Santa Catarina (3.9%), Mato Grosso (4.4%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (5.2%). The Federal District, Amapá, Ceará, Mato Grosso and Rondônia registered stability.
The data are part of the Continuous Pnad (Continuous National Household Sample Survey). The survey portrays both the formal and informal labor market. That is, they are evaluated from jobs with a formal contract and CNPJ to the popular odd jobs.
In Brazil, the unemployment rate dropped to 9.3% in the second quarter, according to data released by the IBGE on the 29th. It is the lowest level for the period since 2015. At the time, the indicator was at 8.4%, and the economy was in recession.
The number of unemployed in the country, in turn, decreased to 10.1 million from April to June this year, in a context of lesser restrictions on economic activities.
According to official statistics, the unemployed population gathers those without work and continues to look for new vacancies. Those who do not have a job and are not looking for opportunities are not included in this calculation.
With the advancement of vaccination against Covid-19, more Brazilians returned to the job market. The average income in the country, however, still shows signs of fragility, impacted by high inflation.
