More purchases in supermarkets, fewer orders for delivery, greater consumption of fast food, rental of party clothes, cameras and microphones, in addition to more consultations with ophthalmologists. These are some of the highlights of the second quarter of 2022 according to the Consumer Behavior Analysis survey by Itaú bank, released this Tuesday (16).
The survey takes into account operations carried out with Itaú customers’ credit and debit cards, as well as amounts handled in Rede brand machines, which belong to the bank.
In the opinion of Mário Miguel, director of cards at Banco Itaú, the data reflect the hybrid moment of consumption: more consumers on the streets reactivate sales in physical stores (up 28% in value), although online consumption continues to grow due to convenience ( 43% advance.
“With more people in person, delivery consumption drops [recuo de 26% em valor] and fast food goes up [56%]”, says Miguel. In other words: those who return to face-to-face meetings are opting for cheaper food.
At the same time, supermarket purchases grew by 23% in value, although the average ticket dropped by 2%. In the period, purchases in installments in supermarkets advanced 4%. “Consumers have varied the number of points of sale, possibly in search of promotions and better prices”, says Miguel.

Pix already tied with debt
Pix as a payment option is already tied with debit, according to Itaú: 12% share for each method. Credit represents 76% of payments.

The return of the parties has heated up the clothing rental market: up 161% in value. The home office on some days of the week and the greater consumption by gamers guarantee an 82% increase in sales of cameras and microphones.
“The consumption of screens during the pandemic, by the way, is charging the bill now: there was a 73% increase in total payments to ophthalmologists and 21% in opticians”, says Miguel.
The survey also indicated a 287% increase in the value transacted in international tourism, with emphasis on the United States (26% share).
