iFood signed an agreement with the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat and the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of the Military Police for their motorcycle delivery men to be released from the blitz more quickly.
The company says it has developed technology that integrates with the police information system. Thus, when the motoboy is stopped by the inspection, he provides some personal data that, when checked by the police, confirm that he is on business.
“There is no data sharing, but it is possible, in a fully automated and updated way, to confirm the registration of those who are still active in the application and if they are on the delivery route”, says iFood.
The technology was developed after pressure from couriers and consumers, who would be complaining about delays.
In São Paulo, the agreement is already active and, in Rio de Janeiro, with the signature this week, the system should start to take effect in the next few days.
According to iFood, other regions have already been mapped and are still in negotiations for expansion, including Ceará, Distrito Federal and Pernambuco.
Rio’s PM says that the cooperation agreement was initiated from a series of complaints that criminals used items with the company’s brand to deceive victims and commit robberies and thefts.
Sought after, the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo did not respond until the publication of this report.
Since May, when Operation Sufoco was implemented, the São Paulo police intensified their inspection of motoboys to try to identify false delivery men.
The operation was adopted because of the death of Renan Silva Loureiro, 20, murdered by a fake delivery man in the south of the city, during a robbery. During the announcement of the operation, Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) stated that “in São Paulo, the criminal who raises a weapon for the police will be shot”.
report of Sheet had already shown that a wave of robberies carried out by criminals on motorcycles was causing fear to the residents of the capital of São Paulo. Often disguised as app deliverers, thieves used to act fast, at any time of day, and threaten victims with guns and screaming.
Bags with logos similar to those of the app delivery companies can be purchased online.
Since the implementation of the operation, motoboys have staged a series of protests in the city of São Paulo against the rigidity of the approaches.
At the time, the union of the category submitted to the Secretary of Public Security a proposal to create a register, with the number and plate of the motorcycle registered in the trunk — the entity that represents the motoboys is against the use of backpacks or bags.
“iFood is favorable to the use of technology in the public safety scenario, as it reduces the bureaucracy of the process and brings a viable and updated solution to confirm partners”, says João Sabino, director of public policies at iFood. “We need to guarantee the flexibility, autonomy and security of everyone who works on platforms.”
