The Minister of Finance emphasized that we should wait for the first week of September to know the GDP of the second quarter, the course of tax revenues and tourism revenues from the two months of July and August.

The total aid to households and businesses will rise to 2 billion euros, in order to cover most of the charges on the electricity bills for September, said Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, speaking to Realfm 97.8.

The Minister of Finance emphasized that extra income is coming to Greek households due to the reduction in unemployment, the increase in receipts from tourism, continued investments and the increase in the minimum wage.

He noted that citizens are proceeding to cover tax obligations without a reduction in deposits.

This good picture, he added, is clouded by inflation and problems in the energy sector, he underlined and added that the State has built lines of defense to support households and businesses.

We are willing to let’s keep strengtheningin order to cover part of the additional burden, he said and added that in September it is estimated that the subsidy will reach 2 billion euros, which means that the burden on the state budget will be greater than that of August.

The Minister of Finance emphasized that we should wait for the first week of September for the picture of the Greek economy, so that we know the GDP of the second quarter, the course of tax revenues and the revenues from tourism from the two months of July and August.

These three elements will determine the additional fiscal space for late 2022 and early 2023, Mr. Staikouras said.
