The Federal Police’s operation on Bolsonarista businessmen from the Whatsapp group that exchanged messages in favor of a coup d’état was received with concern in the business community.
The assessment is that the case could worsen the image of business in the country in front of foreign investors and deepen the perception of political instability on the eve of the election.
The president of Abiplast (Brazilian Association of the Plastic Industry), José Ricardo Roriz, criticized the measure.
“I was perplexed that conversations between friends on WhatsApp have been a reason for search and seizure, access to personal accounts and other excesses. The objective is to strain the country even more until we see where the rope breaks?”, says Roriz.
Other representatives of the private sector say they are concerned about the image damage that could befall companies whose owners are involved in the messages. Among the targets, there are large businesses in sectors such as construction, shopping malls and restaurants.
The names include Luciano Hang, from Havan, José Isaac Peres, from the Multiplan shopping chain, Ivan Wrobel, from Construtora W3, José Koury, from Barra World Shopping, André Tissot, from Grupo Sierra, Meyer Nigri, from Tecnisa, Marco Aurélio Raymundo , from Mormaii, and Afrânio Barreira, from the Coco Bambu Group.
This Tuesday (23), Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants), which brings together more than 11 thousand establishments in the country, came out in defense of Afrânio Barreira. For the president of the entity, Barreira is a Bolsonarista, but he would not be associated with a coup.
wanted by SA Panel, Sinduscon (construction union) declined to comment on the PF action. The Secovi-SP (Housing Union) said that “it is not up to its leaders to comment on personal opinions”.
Abrasce’s (malls association) spokesperson said that it is Multiplan who is commenting on the matter.
