Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has sought in meetings with businessmen to convey the opposite message to what Jair Bolsonaro (PL) tries to paste on him.
According to people present at more than one meeting with businessmen and the former president, Lula usually says that, if elected, he will lead a government that will have predictability and credibility and that this will pave the way for the country to receive investments.
He also states that he will make a participatory management and that he will listen to different segments in the decision-making process.
In public speeches and private conversations with businessmen, according to allies, PT also seeks to say that he has no hatred, anger or resentment towards anyone after leaving prison, where he stayed for 580 days.
On Tuesday (23), the PT met with representatives of the construction sector, which is considered by members of the campaign one of the main agendas of the PT. That’s because works will be considered key pieces to boost the economy of his eventual government.
“All the achievements that Aloizio Mercadante (former minister of the Civil House) mentioned in civil construction were not a work of my government, it was a construction that we did together with businessmen”, Lula stressed, right at the beginning of his speech.
“[A construção ocorreu] Whether in the economic and social development council, or in meetings with various sectors of civil construction, in which we discussed the improvement of the things we needed to do for civil construction to resume development,” said Lula.
The meeting was attended by José Carlos Martins, president of the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC); Yorki Estefan, vice president of Sinduscon-SP; Romeu Chap, former president of Secovi-SP, and José Romeu Ferraz Neto, president of Fiabci-Brasil (International Real Estate Federation).
On the occasion, Lula insisted on exalting the figure of the vice-presidential candidate, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB). She recalled his experience and said that this shows that differences do not hinder dialogue and did not prevent respect for the federative pact when PT was president and when Alckmin was governor of São Paulo.
As shown in the column Mônica Bergamo, in parallel conversations with the businessmen who were there, the PT said that the former governor of São Paulo will not be a decorative deputy and that he will participate in all meetings of the political council.
The entry and better reception of the former toucan in sectors of the business community is used as a trump card by the PT, which highlighted the vice-president to also dialogue with these sectors.
During meetings with businessmen, the former president wanted to convey the message that revoking the spending cap does not mean that there will be unbridled costs in the government. The PT always repeats in his speeches that education does not represent spending, but investment.
“I’m not afraid of government debt. Debt is bad when it’s made for you to pay the costs. But a debt made to build a new asset, to give receipts to the country, is very important,” Lula said on Tuesday, in the meeting with entrepreneurs.
