Kim Jong Un knows how to prevent a plot to kill him. He builds 8 new mansions in his “forbidden city” so that his enemies can never find out where he sleeps.

The eight new luxury residences have been built in the Ch’angkwangsan complex, a secret estate in the heart of Pyongyang. The study, by North Korea Leadership Watch, also identified several plots of land for future mansions.

Michael Madden, an expert on the country’s elite, said that one possible reason for the construction of the residences was to make it difficult for their enemies in a possible assassination attempt.

He continued: “This would be an attack from outside the country, targeting the leadership of North Korea, along with command and control of its military assets. The most significant activity occurred about ten years ago, when South Korean forces simulated such an attack and this upset Pyongyang.”

According to him, this is another round in a decades-long cat-and-mouse game in which the North Korean leader “slips away” even from satellite images.

It’s a paranoid tactic, the Daily Mail reports, that harks back to Qin Shi Huang, China’s first emperor, who is said to have slept in a different place every night to avoid assassins.

These new residences are located in the heart of Pyongyang. “They are across the street from the office buildings of the Central Committee departments of the ruling party,” reveals Michael Madden.

“These departments are some of the most powerful institutions in North Korea’s political culture, overseeing the work of the government, security and military organizations.

The Ch’angkwangsan complex is also close to various venues where the North Korean leadership holds national events,” he adds.

Moreover, the enclosure is comfortable ground for Kim Jong Un. He himself spent part of his childhood in his largest residence, which was built for his father and predecessor, Kim Jong-il.

Kim Jong Un has approximately 13 residential complexes located throughout the country. Each of these complexes has residences for himself and his family, as well as entertainment and dining facilities.
