The dollar this Friday (26) had little change against the real with investors around the world waiting for a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole symposium of the US central bank.
At 9:04 am (GMT), the spot dollar retreated 0.06%, to R$ 5.1081 reais on sale, on the way to register a weekly fall.
On B3, at 9:04 am (GMT), the first-maturity dollar futures contract dropped 0.10% to R$5.1130 reais.
The day before, the US spot currency rose 0.01% to R$5.1111.
In this trading session, the Central Bank will auction up to 15 thousand traditional foreign exchange swap contracts for the purpose of rolling over the maturity date of October 3, 2022.
This Thursday (25), the dollar was stable in a day of truce in the race for the American currency abroad. Investors adopted caution on the eve of the Fed’s announcement at the Jackson Hole symposium.
On the Brazilian Stock Exchange, the Ibovespa index rose 0.56%, to 113,531 points, following the positive closing of the main stock exchanges.
In the US stock market, the benchmark S&P 500 index rose 1.41%. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq indicators gained 0.98% and 1.67%, respectively.
Despite the sharp rise in US indices, the day did not have news with great potential to move the market.
Federal Reserve officials who attended the Jackson Hole symposium on Thursday did not commit to the size of the interest rate hike they will approve at their Sept. 20-21 meeting.
In a scenario where the Fed deems the need to continue aggressively raising the rate, analysts estimate a 0.75 point rise in the rate in September, currently at 2.5% per year. This was the increase applied in the last two meetings of the monetary authority.
For those who expect a more lenient stance, the rate is expected to rise by 0.50 percentage point.
In the international oil market, the price of crude raw material retreated after a sequence of five highs in six sessions. The barrel of Brent ended the day quoted at US$ 99.87 (R$ 511), with a drop of 1.33%.
