Coca-Cola and BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) signed an agreement to donate more than 400 refrigerators for storing vaccines to Brazilian municipalities that still have low immunization rates in the campaign against Covid-19.
The joint donation should serve around 5 million people, according to the company. Preference will be given to cities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, in the North and Northeast regions, with low scores on the HDI (Human Development Index) calculated by the United Nations.
Coca-Cola has committed to investing R$ 3.5 million in the acquisition and distribution of refrigerators, an amount that will be doubled by BNDES through the Matchfunding Saving Lives project, launched during the pandemic to facilitate the acquisition of equipment and supplies for the Covid-19’s confrontation.
According to the program’s rules, the official bank contributes R$1 for every R$1 donated by companies. The program has enabled donations totaling R$ 113 million so far. The biggest contributions were made by Eletrobrás subsidiaries, the Kaiser brewery and B3.
