“Battle” against time for weaning off Russian natural gas – The percentages across Europe and the position of Greece

by

How far have European states managed to reduce Russian gas imports – Is Europe managing to fill energy reserves ahead of the difficult winter?

The effort to unhook the EU from Russian natural gas data and Gazprom’s games with the Nord Stream faucet is great.

And while the Russian pipeline remains closed until further notice, European states are filling their energy reserves in anticipation of the difficult winter while reducing dependence on Russian gas.

Her example is typical Germany which managed to reduce the percentage of Russian natural gas it imports from 55% to 30%

THE Austria it was and is one of the most dependent countries, however, and it managed to drop the corresponding percentage from 80% to 50%.

On the same axis and Italy with dependency falling from 40% to 25%.

THE France which used to cover 1/4 of its energy reserves from Russia is now at 17%. However, this is the case because of the nuclear plants it has

At the same time, Greece’s dependence is insignificant only at 4%, as the gas supply is made through liquefied LNG and through TAP (the Azeri natural gas)

This overall effort shows that so far the EU has covered the reservoirs by an average of 80%. It is characterized as a good goal that was achieved earlier than expected (In August instead of November). However, this percentage practically means that these stocks will cover the needs of the entire EU by only 25-30%.

Obviously the winter will be hard to “get out of” unless new natural gas comes into the pipelines or new sources are found.

Thus, the EU has set a target of reducing consumption by 15% by citizens and businesses.
