“We are firmly on track,” said Eric Mamer

The belief that the tasks that are being made regarding the European Commission’s energy proposals “must be done in stages”, said the Commission’s Chief Spokesperson Eric Mamer asked about statements made over the weekend by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

“We are firmly on track,” added Mr. Mamer. In addition, he noted that, for its part, the Commission is “extremely consistent” in explaining what it is doing.

“Last week, we outlined at length all the work going on here at the Commission to help deal with the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the energy front,” the Chief Spokesperson stressed.

“We are now finalizing a working document (non paper), which will go to the Council of Energy Ministers on Friday,” he added.

Finally, he underlined that “we are acting on the mandate of the European Council, we are very active and the Council was indeed extremely quick in responding to our proposals”.
