Karagiannis: New, uniform tariff for the restoration of buildings after natural disasters

by

According to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, prices are reviewed after about 10 years and will be increased by up to 30%.

A new, updated repair tariff for the rehabilitation of affected buildings after catastrophic events was put into effect by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as announced from the floor of the Parliament, by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for infrastructure, Mr. George Karagiannis.

As Mr. Karagiannis made known “the new updated tariff for the restoration of buildings is uniform for all natural disasters that have taken place since 2017, it includes 169 restoration works and the increase in the prices of the repair articles amounts to a percentage of up to 30% ».

In fact, according to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, “responding to the demands of society, we are revising the prices for the first time after about 10 years”.

As he clarified, the review is targeted and concerns work where a significant price discrepancy has been identified.

Mr. Karagiannis also announced “a reform of the institutional framework for the granting of housing assistance compensation, which will significantly reduce the observed delays and will also simplify the procedures for citizens”.

What does single repair invoice mean?

Mr. Karagiannis explained that “the works that were compensated, for example, only in cases of fire and related to cupboards, pergolas, etc., will now be compensated for all catastrophic phenomena such as earthquakes and floods, while new works for repairs have also been added preserved buildings”.

“We are close to the citizens’ problems and we know their needs” noted the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, adding that “we have gone one step further” as concerns were answered regarding the scope of the new uniform tariff and the retroactivity of the decision.

Who is affected by the new single tariff?

The starting point for the retroactive application of the new tariff is for events from 2017 onwards as long as it concerns buildings for which a repair permit has not yet been issued.

In cases where the repair permit has been issued, as long as the repair work has not started or is in progress and the beneficiaries have not received the second installment.

“Even citizens who have started the repairs of their buildings are entitled to readjust the invoice with the new one, as long as they have not received the money of the 2nd installment for the repair” underlined the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.

In closing, Mr. Karagiannis sent a clear message that “those of us who work in the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis know very well what we have to do and we will do it, with clear words and without cheap promises and populism. We move forward with the realism that the times require, but also with the responsibility of a government that wants what it commits to doing by building relationships of trust and strong ties with the citizens.”
