The number of new companies opened in São Paulo this year will be the highest recorded in the history of the state’s Board of Trade, reflecting the search for small entrepreneurs to formalize their businesses and the creation of facilities for registering companies.
The number of new firms opened in the state this year reached 259.6 thousand in November, representing an increase of 16% compared to 2019, when 224.6 thousand companies emerged. Last year, when the coronavirus pandemic began, 224.2 thousand firms were opened.
The rise in unemployment has led many people who have been out of work or were working informally to open their own businesses. Individual micro and small business owners represented 44% of new firms opened by the São Paulo Board of Trade this year.
In São Paulo, the state government implemented at the beginning of this year a one-stop shop in the capital, a digital platform to facilitate the opening of companies. By the end of the year, the system should go into operation in other municipalities in the state, according to the government.
