Lower energy prices and secure supplies are the goal, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said a day after the meeting of relevant EU ministers in Brussels. Specifically, he noted:

“As we prepare with the commissioners our energy package to tackle skyrocketing prices and provide relief to Europeans, we welcomed the Council’s overall support for our basic approach.

“We discussed the issue of the cost of natural gas. We evaluated the work on state aid, level playing field, support for small and medium enterprises”

The President of the Commission added that the work ahead of the meeting of the House of Commissioners in Strasbourg can be summarized as follows:

* Smart demand reduction

* Energy sector contributions to support vulnerable households and businesses

* Liquidity support of utilities

* Accelerating the promotion of REPowerEU.

“Regarding the cost of natural gas, we continue to work on answers adapted to a global market.

The aim: to ensure lower prices in Europe while ensuring security of supply” concluded Ms von der Leyen.
