by

Government announcements will be made today and are aimed at providing incentives to reduce consumption

Significantly lower than the current month of September are the electricity tariffs for October announced last night by the suppliers, as part of the statutory obligation to announce the tariffs of the following month by the 20th of the previous one. Indicatively, the PPC tariff for October is 25% lower than the current one.

Prices nevertheless remain high and consumer interest is focused on government announcements on the level of subsidies next month, which will determine the actual burden on consumers.

The announcements will be made on Wednesday morning by Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas and are expected to include a tiered subsidy depending on consumption, higher for low consumption.

More specifically, three levels of consumptionthe new model of intervention in electricity tariffs brings three different subsidies for October.

The subsidies concern all households without income criteria.

According to information, of the three aforementioned tiers, the first two are energy-intensive and involve consumption of over a thousand kilowatt-hours per four-month period. They are subsidized with an additional kilowatt-hour reduction of 15 minutes if they reduce their consumption by 15% compared to last year

For the vast majority of households and in October, the interventions erase even 90% of the burdens.

In more detail, for natural gas, the subsidy will concern all consumers without consumption scales, but the absorption of the charges will be smaller, thus erasing up to 90% of the charges on the electricity tariffs for the vast majority of households.

At the same time, a new subsidy system is being established for those who have higher consumptions and manage to save 15% compared to last year.

In the first tier, the subsidies are larger.

In the second and third tiers, the subsidies are smaller but the 15% energy saving brings bonus subsidies.

As for heating oil, the 25-cent subsidy at the pump starts on October 15.

Indicative invoices announced by suppliers:

PPC 59.5 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 500 kilowatt hours, 60.7 cents for the next and 55.4 cents for the night tariff.

Heron Protect 62 minutes per kilowatt hour

Elpedison 59.05-63.06 cents per kilowatt hour with consistency discount.
