Georgantas: We support the domestic production of organic products with 705 million euros

The support of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food in the production of organic products was expressed by the responsible minister, George Georgantas speaking at a workshop on organic products organized by the c.g. of Union Resources and Infrastructure in collaboration with the Chamber of Serres, in the context of SerExpo.

He noted that Greece has the possibility to win the bet and adapt its production to the European Union’s target for organic production, as “the political leadership of the HYPAAT creates the conditions for this”.

He spoke about the national plan to support organic production, total budget 705 million eurosfrom which more than 60,000 producers will benefitemphasizing that the 305 million euros of the program will be directed to organic livestock farming.

“The biodiversity of the Greek land makes Greek meats unique in taste and quality anyway. It would be a mistake not to support the development of organic livestock farming, as through it Greek production can go to another level and conquer not only the Greek but also the international markets”, said the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food.

Mr. Georgantas pointed out that a similar perspective exists in organic aquaculture of Greece, emphasized the need to promote organic production through its connection with tourism and said that through the cooperation of the HYPAAT and the Ministry of Education, promotion programs for organic production can be developed at a national level, in order to create the generation of consumers of 2030.

Regarding the issue of strengthening supply chains, he underlined the need to expand popular markets for organic products and for producers to have easier access to them.

As a “strategic choice” she characterized the support of organic production as a “strategic choice”. of YPAAT, Christiana Kalogirou, while from his side the g.y. of Union Resources and Infrastructure, Dimitris Papagiannidis made an extensive presentation of all the RDP support measures, stressing that the “Organic Agriculture” program foresees financial support measures for the conversion or maintenance of organic farming practices, in accordance with the principles and methods of organic farming production.
