The volume of sales in supermarkets and restaurants still remains at a lower level than pre-pandemic, according to a survey by Fipe (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas) in partnership with Alelo. The data signal the impact of the history of inflation and tightening of income.
The drop is 7% in supermarket transactions and almost 3% in the amount spent by the consumer in the comparison of July 2022 with the same month of 2019.
In restaurants, the difference compared to July 2019 is greater, with a 40% drop in the volume of transactions and more than 30% in the amount spent.
In the monthly comparison, between June and July, the scenario points to an upward trend, with a 5% growth in supermarket transactions and 6% in restaurants.
