Overdue Pensions: New August Award Record – 97% Issued

The issue of pending pensions by the government, offering real respite to citizens who ended their working lives, waiting for a long time to regain a stable income every month.

According to the Ministry of Labor, 97% of the overdue main pensions have already been issued, as in the month August a new award record was set with over 20,000 pension decisions. At the same time, 5 sq. Funds and 10 departments of the EFKA reduced their outstanding balances to zero.

In detail, of the 1,100,000 main pension applications that have been submitted since the launch of the Unified Social Security Agency, 97% have been issued. For the years 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 the backlog has been reduced to zero, while for 2020 97% of the applications have been issued and for 2021 91%. It is noteworthy that more than 85% of the pension applications submitted up to the end of May 2022 have already been cleared, demonstrating the significant acceleration in awarding times as it is now possible to issue many pensions even in 60 days.

August turned out to be the best August of all time for EFKA as in the midst of summer and holidays more than 20,000 pension decisions were issued, increased by 55% compared to the corresponding month last year and 100% compared to 2020.

At the same time, 5 EFKA Funds and 10 offices of the Agency throughout Greece canceled overdue pensions, many of which had been pending for 1 or 2 years. Only a few remain, the majority of which are potentially rejected or with open debts, where they are expected to be finalized within the next few days.

A total of 188,000 pensions were issued in the first 8 months of 2022, 25,000 more than those issued in the whole of 2020 and 65,000 more than the total of 2019 issues. The overdue main pensions at the end of August amounted to 31,000. Of these, approximately 15,000 concern State pensions.

These days, a special plan for the immediate issuance of these pensions is underway, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems, through the use of special software and automation. Both these and all of the private sector outstandings are to be cleared in the next period of time.
