The president of the Natura&Co. group, Fabio Barbosa, said he was surprised, “like the majority”, by the expressiveness of the votes for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the first round of the elections this Sunday (2) – above what the research institutes indicated.
“I partly credit this move to the embarrassed vote [em Bolsonaro]not detected in the polls, and in part to the posture of the candidate Ciro Gomes [PDT] that, when hitting Lula [PT]pushed his electorate towards Bolsonaro”, he says.
As for former President Lula, Barbosa says that the time has come for the PT to say what it came for. “You need to make your government plan clearer,” he says. “That [não ter mostrado o plano completo] may have cost him a few votes in the first round as well.”
The executive’s preference was for the MDB candidate, Simone Tebet, who came in 3rd place in the polls, with 4.9 million votes.
“People complained about polarization, but it didn’t have to be that way, we always had an option”, he says, stressing that this is a personal position, which does not reflect that of the Natura group.
“From what we saw from the last debate on Thursday [29]the situation is not easy for Brazil, taking into account the two first places in the polls”, he says, referring to former president Lula and current president, Bolsonaro, who are now facing each other in the second round of the presidential elections. .
Charge for burning forests
Barbosa emphasizes that there is no fear, on the part of the company, of being associated with leftist banners. During the break in the electoral debate, a commercial for the company showed Amazon forests burning.
“The fight for the standing forest and for the peoples of the Amazon is a defense of Natura since its foundation, in 1969”, he says.
The fact that there are no health restrictions in 2023 is a very positive factor for business next year, says the executive. “But there are several factors of concern on the international scene for the coming year: Russia’s war in Ukraine, the cost of energy in Europe and the US interest rate,” he says.
“As long as the war in Ukraine lasts, the scenario of global uncertainty continues,” he says.
