EU diplomats say ‘a lot of pressure’ expected at informal Prague energy summit

The President of the Commission is expected to send a letter to the member states in the next few hours Ursula von der Leyen focusing on the energy issue.

“In the right direction” European diplomats believe that the Commission is moving after the speech of the President of the Commission, pointing out that “a lot of pressure is expected” at the informal summit in Prague regarding energy.

At the same time, they note that the leaders will criticize Berlin for the 200 billion euros it throws into the German market, while regarding the general ceiling on natural gas, it is possible that other countries, such as Finland, Austria and Hungary, will be in favor.

However, European sources underline that the 15 member states, which have signed the letter for a general ceiling on natural gas, “are united” and the goal is to send a “clear and strong political message” about the need to reduce natural gas prices.
