Businessman offers R$200 for employees to vote for Bolsonaro; watch video

by

The Electoral Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a complaint about an attempt to buy votes in São Miguel do Guamá (PA), about 150 kilometers from Belém. The complaint is based on a video in which a businessman offers R$200 to employees if President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is reelected.

According to CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores), the entrepreneur is Maurício Lopes Fernandes Júnior, known as “Da Lua” and owner of ceramics in the region.

The reporter was not able to contact him until the publication of this text.

At first, the businessman says that companies in the municipality will close their doors in case of victory for the opposition candidate, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who won the first round with 47.91% of the valid votes.

“We have to unite so that Lula doesn’t win,” he says. “Because if Lula wins, you can be sure that more than half of the ceramics in São Miguel will close. I’m one that if he wins, I’ll close the three ceramics I have because no one will stand the cucumber that comes.”

Afterwards, he offers money to convince employees to vote for Bolsonaro and says that another employee will make a list of workers who participated in the conversation.

“Gleidsson is going to take your name, everyone’s name, it doesn’t matter if you have a file, a formal contract, without a license, a truck loader, a truck driver, everyone who is here listening, whoever wants to name it, and if the president wins the election , each one will have R$ 200 in their pocket the next morning.”

The Electoral Public Prosecutor’s Office informed, in a note, that “it has already received the video and adopted initial measures”. According to the agency, the case was sent to the Federal Police to open a police procedure to investigate the occurrence.

In theory, he says, the businessman would be committing crimes provided for in articles 299 and 301 of the Electoral Code.

The first provides for a penalty of up to four years of imprisonment and a fine for anyone who “gives, offers, promises, requests or receives, for himself or for others, money, gifts, or any other advantage, in order to obtain or cast a vote and to obtain or promise abstention, even if the offer is not accepted”.

The second defines the same penalty for anyone who “uses violence or serious threats to coerce someone to vote, or not to vote, for a particular candidate or party, even if the intended ends are not achieved.”

A week ago, the MPT (Ministry of Labor) in Espírito Santo launched a civil inquiry to investigate the practice of electoral harassment at the company Imetame, in Aracruz (ES), a municipality about 85 kilometers from Vitória.

In a video sent to the regional prosecutor’s office, a man, whom the MPT identifies as the employer, tells an audience made up of employees that, depending on who they choose in this year’s elections, “you won’t be able to complain” if you find yourself out of a job. .
