Post Office starts counting Saturday as a business day for Sedex 10 and 12

by

The Post Office will start considering Saturday as a working day for FedEx delivery in modalities 10 (orders made the day before with delivery until 10 am the next day) and 12 (delivery until noon the day after the order is placed). The changes apply to the main cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Paraná.

The state-owned company announced the news this Wednesday (5), during a presentation to online retail companies, in São Paulo. The objective is to close new contracts for Black Friday, the main date for national trade, which takes place on the last Friday of November (25).

“This year, we are going to have the biggest Black Friday of all time, the Black Friday of millions”, said the president of Correios, Floriano Peixoto, who participated in the event in São Paulo.

THE Sheet found that the state-owned company lost space among large retailers in the delivery of orders in recent years. Mercado Livre, for example, the largest e-commerce operation in the country, uses the Post Office for less than 5% of its deliveries; 95% of orders are delivered by Mercado Livre’s own logistics network. In 2017, it was the opposite: 95% of deliveries on the site were through the Post Office.

This Wednesday’s announcement seeks to restore confidence in Correios’ agility in meeting a key date for year-end sales.

In this sense, the state-owned company also announced an investment of R$ 320 million in fleet renewal, with the purchase of 4,800 new vehicles. In all, the company has 23 thousand vehicles.

Another novelty was the reduction of the delivery period from 5 days to 1 in more than 17 thousand segments operated by the Post Office. According to Peixoto, in the main markets, there was also a price reduction.

Sedex Hoje, with same-day deliveries, which only served the capital of São Paulo, now also works in Curitiba and Belo Horizonte. The expectation is to reach 12 more cities by the end of the year.

In the flow of orders from abroad, the state-owned company sought to improve delivery times, reduced to approximately eight days after the release of the product by the import inspection agencies.

The company promises to keep all these delivery deadlines during Black Friday 2022 and highlights its wide branch network –of more than 11,000 stations in 5,570 cities across the country– as a strong point, with the solution for picking up or posting goods for reverse logistics.
