Caixa gives discount of up to 90% in debt; see how to trade

by

Caixa Econômica Federal announced this Thursday (6) a new round of its debt renegotiation campaign called Você no Azul. The program offers discounts of up to 90% for people and companies that have debts with the bank.

Although it has been in existence since 2019, the campaign is being resumed amid the race for the second round of the elections and was anticipated as a novelty by candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL), days after his rival for the Presidency, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), incorporate a proposal by Ciro Gomes (PDT) to deal with the indebted.

According to Caixa, around 4 million customers and 400,000 companies have overdue debts with the institution and will be able to renegotiate them. In most cases, the debt does not exceed R$5,000 and more than 80% of customers will be able to settle what they owe for less than R$1,000, according to the bank.

The bank is expected to recover up to R$1 billion in overdue debts by the end of the year — amounts that were already recorded as a loss on the balance sheet.

All types of debt can be renegotiated in the program, except housing and agricultural contracts. There is no value limitation.

According to the bank, most debts come from the credit card of individuals. The idea is to encourage cash payment, offering discounts of up to 90% on the total amount in arrears.

Auxílio Brasil loan will be released between October 10 and 15

Caixa also intends to encourage people to renegotiate their cash debt using funds from the Auxílio Brasil payroll loan. According to the president of Caixa, Daniella Marques, the loan should be available between the 10th and 15th of October.

The idea, according to the president of the state-owned company, is for customers to exchange a more expensive debt for a cheaper one. According to her, the institution is working with agencies to educate clients. “When the payroll is available, it will be a great opportunity not only to undertake, but to renegotiate and replace one debt with another”, she said.

What debts can be negotiated?

With the exception of agricultural debts and real estate financing, all other modalities can be renegotiated in the program, such as overdraft, credit card and working capital. There is no value limitation and customers can negotiate more than one debt.

What needs to be done?

With the CPF number, the customer can check the discounts:

  • in the box app
  • by WhatsApp (0800 104 0104)
  • at agencies and lottery
  • through the campaign website (www.caixa.gov.br/vocenoazul)

The bank will still have trucks for debt renegotiation visiting some cities in the country.

The contracts that can be renegotiated online are the simplest, such as overdraft, credit card and other modalities that do not involve a guarantee. A slip will be generated for the customer to pay off the debt in cash.

What is the discount amount?

The percentage is not tabulated and depends on each contract. According to Júlio Volpp, vice president of Caixa’s retail network, in theory the older the debt, the greater the discount, since the difficulty of recovering credit is greater. The discounts will be higher, although there is an option to pay in installments in some cases.

What’s the benefit?

Customers who opt for renegotiation will have the debt settled and the name removed from the external restrictive registers, which will be done within five working days.

How long will it work?

The new round of renegotiation began in October and runs until December 29, with the possibility of extension.

Bank has been running campaigns since 2017

During the announcement of the new stage, Caixa’s president highlighted that since 2017 the institution has carried out annual credit recovery campaigns – called Você no Azul in 2019.

According to Marques, 70% of debts can be renegotiated through online channels, through Caixa’s apps, website and social networks.

Asked about the program’s launch date taking place in the middle of the electoral period, Marques minimized the issue, saying that the announcement always occurs at this same time. “It is normal that, from the balance of the year, we enter the fourth quarter opening this opportunity for renegotiation. There are debts in arrears, so many people already have provisions, and then a window of opportunity opens for these people to renegotiate”, stated.
