Increase compared to August which was 11.4% – Explosive increase of 332% for natural gas compared to last September, increase of 65.1% for heating oil
Inflation rose to 12% in September according to ELSTAT’s announcement, marking an increase compared to the previous month, which was 11.4%.
In the comparison of prices last September compared to this year, there are increases of 332% for natural gas, 65.1% for heating oil, 30.5% for electricity. Fuels and oils increase 17.7% air tickets 58.7% taxis 32.9% bread 18.4 meats 17.6 dairy and eggs 23.3% oils 17% coffee cocoa tea 14.3% cars 13.7%
The increase of the General CPI in the month of September 2022, compared to the corresponding Index of August 2022,
it came mainly from changes in the following groups of goods and services:
1. From the increases of the indicators by:
• 1.4% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, due mainly to price increases in: bread, other bakery products
and confectionery, lamb and goat, fresh fish, dairy and eggs, olive oil, vegetables (in general). Part of
of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly in fresh fruit prices.
• 0.4% in the group Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, due mainly to an increase in prices of alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 41.4% in the Clothing and Footwear group, due to prices returning to pre-summer sale levels.
• 3.4% in the Housing group, mainly due to price increases in: house rents, various services related to
the house, natural gas, solid fuel. Part of this increase was compensated by the decrease mainly in prices in
electricity.
• 1.9% in the group Durable goods-Household goods and services, due mainly to price increases in: textiles
household products, household appliances and repairs, household consumer goods.
• 0.3% in the Health group, mainly due to an increase in the prices of pharmaceutical products.
• 1.8% in the Education group, mainly due to price increases in: primary education fees, tuition fees
secondary education.
• 2.7% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to an increase in prices in: restaurants-patisseries-cafes-canteens, hotels-motels-inns.
• 0.4% in the Other goods and services group, mainly due to price increases in other personal care items.
2. From the reduction of the index by:
• 1.4% in the Transport group, mainly due to a decrease in prices in: car fuel (petrol), transport tickets
airplane passengers. Part of this decrease was compensated by the increase in prices mainly in: oil
traffic, new cars.
