The 4 technologies that were mainly used by Greek companies for their digital transformation during the period 2018-2020 concerned Internet of things technologies (35.5%), cloud computing technologies (33.8% ), cyber security technologies (29.2%) and big data analytics technologies (24.2%).

This results from his research National Documentation and Electronic Content Center (EKT), which documented the use of pioneering technologies of the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) for the development of innovative products and processes. The survey shows that the adoption of digital practices is accelerating and digital transformation is now a central business strategy for four out of ten Greek businesses, especially large enterprises, service enterprises and innovative ones.

The set of important indicators that determine the digital transformation of Greek businesses shows an upward trend in the three years 2018-2020, compared to the previous period 2016-2018. 40.2% of Greek businesses consider digital transformation as a very important continuous development strategy, showing an increase compared to the period 2016-2018 (33.5%). More generally, the majority (58.5%) use digital technologies to develop innovative business processes.

On the other hand, a large percentage of domestic businesses declare insufficient knowledge and understanding of the use of technologies, such as artificial intelligence (31.7%), blockchain transaction technologies (31.6%) and 3D printing printing (30.1%).

Staff with appropriate knowledge and skills, public funding, information about new technologies and the availability of public technological infrastructure are considered key factors facilitating the adoption of leading edge digital technologies.

Geographically, Attica shows the highest percentage of digital business transformation (42.7%), followed by Central Greece (39.5%), Northern Greece (36.9%) and the Aegean-Crete islands (34.5%). ).

Regarding the individual strategic areas of digital transformation, emphasis on digital technology to improve and develop goods/services (41.7%) and ERP systems (36%) emerge as the most pivotal areas. Strengthening the digital skills of staff is considered very important by 29.7% of businesses.

Almost 30% of businesses exclusively developed in-house the digital applications used in business process innovations, an additional 19.2% of enterprises developed digital applications both in-house and externally, while 9.6% used external (out-sourced) digital applications.

Regarding the importance of pioneering technologies for the development of businesses in the future, cyber security technologies (17%), big data analytics technologies (14.5%), cloud computing technologies (14.5%) were chosen as the most important ) (13.6%), internet of things technologies (13.2%) and 5G technologies (12.7%).
