Inauguration of the new tanker loading infrastructure by DESFA in Revythoussa

The Minister of Shipping pointed out the upgrading of our country’s energy autonomy and at the same time the improvement of its position on the global energy map Yannis Plakiotakis during the inauguration of the new tanker loading infrastructure that will transport the fuel to the points of use from DESFA, in Revythoussa.

“Today is a very big day for the strengthening of the energy sufficiency and independence of our country. An initiative he takes DESFA with the absolute support of the Greek government, an initiative that brings our country to a much better place compared to many other countries in terms of energy autonomy, in fact at a time when, apart from the initiatives taken by the current government, Greek shipping, more than ever , mainly thanks to the foresight of the Greek shipping industry, currently controls 25% of LNG carriers worldwide”said Mr. Plakiotakis and continued:
“In this way, we all understand that the strategic role of our country in terms of maritime transport and also in terms of natural gas storage is growing. Greece plays a leading role in a period where the energy transition, decarbonization and at the level of commercial shipping, is also the goal of the International Maritime Organization at a global level in a period where new alternative fuels are the strategic goal of the coming years. We are still not able to have the alternative fuels mainly due to the lack of technology, but LNG is functional.
This particular investment will even upgrade the wider area of Piraeus because it will cover future needs in Coastal Shipping and Pontoporo Shipping as well as in our islands.
As the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, we welcome the inauguration of the new terminal, a project which will significantly upgrade the energy autonomy and energy security of our country and the whole of South-Eastern Europe, it will enable new uses of natural gas in new applications and will upgrade the role of our country in the global energy map and in the wider region”.
